While exploring career options, Marylou Faver discovered there was one place she did not want to work — behind a desk.
Before enrolling at American Career College-Orange County, Faver served four years in the U.S. Navy as a yeoman in Viginia. Once she was out of the military, Faver worked as a government contractor doing more administrative work.
"I was sitting down all the time doing paperwork, so I really wanted something hands-on, and that was flexible, so that's why I chose the (surgical technology) program," she said.
Faver said being in the military afforded her a lot of educational options, but she didn't want to rush her decision and end up regretting it.
"I compared them [schools] and I just saw that American Career College was what I wanted, to pick something that my money - I guess you could say - wouldn't get wasted on," she said. "That's why I picked this school.
"It's something that definitely changed my life because I don't know what else I would be doing if I didn't join this program, and it kind of opens your eyes to see what your full potential could be once you go here and take the different classes that are available."
