ACC-OC’s OTA Students Make Heroic Effort For Occupational Therapy Month

04/13/2017

You don't have to be a super hero to make a difference, but it doesn't hurt to dress like one now and then.

For $2, students and associates at ACC-Orange County on April 13 got to show off their fundraising superpowers by representing their favorite costumed comic book hero. The goal of Super Hero Day was to raise $500 for the Triumph Foundation and is part of a larger, multi-event campaign to celebrate national occupational therapy month.

"It’s great to see our students actively engaging in raising awareness of the work the Triumph Foundation does and to have them take on the leadership role in the fundraising," ACC-OC Student Services Director Valerie Dickson said. "This has been a completely student-driven event and it really shows their initiative and passion for their occupational therapy assistant field."

Organized by the student OTA group, the colorful all-day event drew interest from all programs and departments on the ACC-OC campus. Besides Super Hero Day, the group in April will also host Sports Jersey Day, Go Blue/Autism Awareness Day and Backwards Day.

"It’s also been great to see the support from students in the other programs. Allied health is all about collaborative practices and our OC students are onboard," Dickson said.
