ACC Associate Spotlight: Kara Mirarchi

07/18/2016

By any definition, Kara Mirarchi is a hands-on instructor.

As the Massage Therapy program director at American Career College-Long Beach, Mirarchi has spent countless hours teaching the various styles and techniques students will need in the workplace. Some of that instruction comes by lecture or by testing, but the majority comes from Mirarchi rolling up her sleeves and showing her students how its done.

“She always made her students the top priority and I’ve never had that from a teacher, ever. I’ve never had a teacher care for me so much to succeed," ACC-Long Beach graduate Alice Franco said. "She made us all feel like we were one big family and that’s something you don’t get in a lot of places."

A medical massage therapist with US Soccer from 2005 to 2012, Mirarchi has been in the trenches. She's the one with the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup selfie. She's the one giving students a behind-the-scenes look at a pro beach volleyball tournament. She's the one driving students to community events so they can get more experience.

"The most important thing that's happening here at ACC-Long Beach for the massage therapy program is this revamp of the curriculum and what it includes is a more clinical approach to massage therapy," Mirarchi said. "We're educating our students about where they belong in the health care sector."
