Friends and families of more than 800 American Career College graduates filled Toyota Arena this October to celebrate Fall Graduation 2019.
ACC-Ontario graduate Katie Marth said she decided to go back to school after working in healthcare administration management but discovered she wasn't satisfied with the job. Two years after enrolling in ACC's radiology program, Marth is graduating as the valedictorian of her program said looking forward to making a direct impact on patient's lives.
"I gained so much confidence the past two years," Marth said. "If you really work for it and put your mind to it, it's gonna pay off exponentially. You really get out of it what you put into it, and I'm sitting here today, really proud of what I put into it."
Besides it being a special day for graduation, Anthony Monge had the added pressure of singing the national anthem in front of more than 5,000 graduation attendees. Monge has been singing his whole life, he said, but was still feeling some nerves before the event.
"It's a big day," the ACC-Orange County surgical technology graduate said. "My whole family is coming, so it's going to be really great but it's a little special because not everybody gets to sing the national anthem."
Monge didn't remember how he first heard of ACC but said he'll never forget his reaction to seeing the campus for the first time and learning about its surgical technology program.
"I cried," he said. "I kid you not. I was just 'Oh man, this is what I'm meant to be doing right now' and now that I'm finished it just feels so great being able to help the others. Not only can I make an impact on my family but also in other people's lives."
Brenda Rojas said she joined ACC-Los Angeles's surgical technology program on the advice of a friend who had completed the program. Rojas admitted that the program was difficult than she expected at first, but with help from her class and the staff and factually of ACC-Los Angeles, she would receive her diploma today with the rest of her cohort.
"It was a difficult journey," Rojas said, "but like they say if it was easy everyone would do it. But with ACC they're going to help you step by step. There's tutoring — which I took advantage of — and as I said, if I can do it, anybody can do it."
