New App Helps Healthcare Professionals Determine Cardiovascular Disease Risk

04/22/2014

A new app will help determine patients’ risk of Cardiovascular Disease and help health professionals diagnose potentially unforeseen problems. The app, called the ASCVD Risk Estimator is a free tool available for any health professional. Innovations like this app are part of a new trend of making healthcare tools that have the potential to help patients readily available.

”The ASCVD Risk Estimator, a mobile and Web version of the Excel-based calculator released with the ACC/AHA Cardiovascular Risk Guideline in November 2013, uses a patient’s age, sex, race, total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, blood pressure-lowering medication use, diabetes status and smoking status to estimate their 10-year and lifetime risk of MI and ischemic stroke.” States the article from nurse.com
