ACC Graduate Spotlight: Jocelyn Jimenez

07/24/2017

One of the things that Jocelyn Jimenez liked most about American Career College's vocational nursing program was the instructors.

"They really taught us really well — clinical, theory, everything. They were great," she said.

Nine years after graduating from the ACC-Los Angeles, Jimenez is now helping VN students achieve their dreams and career goals.

Jimenez said she still stays in contact with many of her old classmates, many of whom have gone on to earn bachelor of science in nursing degrees. She said she's trying to recruit some of her old VN cohort study group to join her in teaching the next generation of healthcare workers.

"I will teach them how ACC taught me," Jimenez said. "They're strict."

What makes a good nurse?

A good nurse doesn't mean that you're always right. It's also accepting you're wrong sometimes and then learning from it.

What's the hardest part about working in healthcare?

The stress. Being a nurse is not like going to the office every day, where you have to do this and you can finish that tomorrow. It's all different kinds of stuff and challenges — challenges that you have to succeed in.

What's the best part about being a nurse?

It's the caring really, for me. It's like when I was in elementary school and you have to plant a seed and grow it. That's how you feel, like you created a life or you helped somebody extend their life, helping them to cope and make them happy, make them healthy.
