Graduating the vocational nursing program at American Career College-Orange County was a huge milestone for Sandy Jordan. But she’s not planning on slowing down anytime soon.

“Today is an important day because nursing is my passion and I love helping people,” Sandy shared. “ACC helped me become what I am today and this is just a stepping stone for me because I am planning on becoming a geriatric nurse.”

The dedicated student never missed a day of class and never considered quitting, even amid the challenges the past year brought with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing schools to move classes online.

“My mindset is that the sky is the limit and if you set your mind to do something, you can do anything,” she said. “Nursing school is not easy, you have to be focused, study hard, prioritize what you really want and if it’s your passion, go for it.”

Sandy enjoyed working with Alzheimer’s patients as a hospice caregiver before and while pursuing her VN degree, and decided to enroll at ACC because of the direct pathway.

“I have been in school for quite a long time and waiting two years to get into a program was not what I wanted to do,” she said. “ACC was a faster route and now I am what I am today because of it.”

Looking towards her bright future, Sandy said that if her class got through this year, anyone can do it.

“Nursing is all about helping people, being compassionate and caring. It’s a human being you’re taking care of and you really need to be prepared to take care of them,” she said.
